Nuclear Power Business

Nuclear Power Business

Hitachi Plant Construction has a long history in the Nuclear Power Business. In 1970, we began construction on the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant No. 1 for The Japan Atomic Power Company, which contributed to nuclear power generation in Japan. In addition to this extensive experience, we also take advantage of our propriety technology, methods, and products to achieve businesses with a higher level of safety and efficiency considerations.
Hitachi Plant Construction handles a wide range of nuclear power plant operations from installation plans and building construction (planning, fabrication, and installation) of the primary equipment in nuclear power plants, such as reactors, turbines and generators to nuclear power fusion research and nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities. We also provide preventative maintenance (modification, renewal, and repair work).

Business Overview

Construction

Hitachi Plant Construction provides safe and reliable construction and installation of a wide range of equipment, even in extremely difficult environments, using our strengths in high-level construction and management as well as lifting equipment for large objects and other sophisticated installation technologies. Moreover, we propose methods according to the needs of our customers from the construction planning stage through planning and construction specialists. Our 4S (seiri [sorting], seiton [organization], seiso [cleaning], and seiketsu [sanitization]) activities also sustain a clean environment in an effort to enhance customer satisfaction from construction through completion.

Preventative Maintenance

Hitachi Plant Construction plans, handles, and manages regular inspections and repair work of reactor equipment, turbines, and generators, which are key components of nuclear power facilities. We investigate and employ technologies and methods unique to Hitachi Plant Construction in planning thanks to our long history in the nuclear power business, including inspection equipment, and execute installations via highly reliable technologies. In recent years, Hitachi Plant Construction is leveraging its experience in inspecting and maintaining Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) and Advanced Boiling Water Reactors (ABWR) to build a track record in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) from other manufacturers.

Decommissioning Measures

Hitachi Plant Construction provides decommissioning measures and engineering in line with customer needs from the planning through decommissioning work using our experience and technologies amassed in nuclear power plant and other construction work as well as preventative maintenance work when a plant is up and running. We possess our own fire-free cutting technology to use in decommissioning work. In 2018, Hitachi Plant Construction also forged an alliance with Besterra Co., Ltd., which has an extensive track record in decommissioning plant equipment, to address customer needs using the array of decommissioning technologies cultivated over many years by both companies.

Fukushima Recovery

Hitachi Plant Construction is participating in a reactor decommission project for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant toward recovery in Fukushima after the Great East Japan Earthquake. We provide safe and highly reliable work through remote monitoring and control technologies in areas exposed to high levels of radiation. In addition to developing new technologies, we will continue to help promote smooth reactor decommissioning work striving to recover the trust in nuclear power.
